The following statement was issued by LPMN Chair Chris Holbrook after Officer Jeronimo Yanez was acquitted on all charges for the 2016 death of motorist Philando Castile:

Philando Castile

While we are deeply disappointed by the verdict in the manslaughter case against Jeronimo Yanez, we commend Ramsey County Attorney John Choi for bringing this case forward.

Our thoughts are with the family, friends, and co-workers of Philando Castile during this difficult time.

We are sickened by the lack of justice delivered by our system today in the state of Minnesota, regarding the killing of Philando Castile at the hands of Officer Jeronimo Yanez.  A minor traffic stop ended in the unnecessary death of a peaceful citizen. Once again our state initiated an unwarranted act of lethal violence, but failed to administer proper accountability.

We fully support the statements and reactions of the grieving Castile family who accurately describe race relations in Minnesota as devolving in a broken system that needs to change.  With deepest sympathies, the Libertarian Party of Minnesota stands with you.
